Mini Dental Implants
What are Mini Dental Implants?
Mini dental implants are used to effectively anchor your current dentures. The mini dental implants allow for your dentures to snap in and snap out easily – which means that you don’t have to deal with messy pastes or adhesives.
Mini dental implants also allow for a secure fit without the fear of the dentures slipping. You’ll be able to eat the foods you love: steak, apples and corn-on-the-cob.
Mini Dental Implants differ from traditional implants in that the requirements for bone anchoring are much lower. Even if you have significant bone loss in your jaw, you may be a good candidate for mini dental implants.
There are two main parts to a mini dental implant system:
- Mini Implant Post – a post that is placed along your gumline
- Metal Receptacles containing O-Rings – placed on your dentures to snap to the post
Advantages of Mini Dental Implants
There are many advantages of mini dental implants over dentures:
- Dentures are able to snap in and out
- No more dealing with pastes or adhesives for your dentures
- You can bite into an apple and eat a steak again
- No major surgery or long recovery
- A fraction of the cost of more invasive options (like traditional dental implants)
- A much more secure fit for your dentures – no slippage
The Mini Dental Implant Procedure
The entire procedure is non-invasive and is completed in just one dental appointment. The procedure typically lasts just over an hour.
Procedure Summary:
- Mini Implant Posts are placed along your gum line
- Metal receptacles are embedded in the base of your current dentures
- O-rings in the receptacles lock onto posts, securing your dentures in place
- Your dentures will now be able to be easily and securely snapped in and out
Recovery time is much quicker than the recovery period associated with dental implants. Typically the soreness only lasts for a couple of days.
