What are Dental Implants?
Dental Implants are a permanent replacement for your adult teeth. They are a great option for people who have missing teeth. Dental implants look, feel, and act just like your real teeth.
There are three parts to the dental implant:
- Dental Implant – a titanium post that is implanted into the jawbone
- Abutment – placed on top of the implant that supports the artificial tooth
- Crown – the artificial tooth attached to abutment
Advantages of Dental Implants
There are numerous advantages of dental implants when compared to non-treatment – and even when compared to traditional methods of teeth restoration like dentures or bridges.
- Dental Implants last a Lifetime – Unlike bridges and dentures which need to be replaced periodically
- Dental Implants Help Nearby Teeth – The loss of a tooth stresses nearby teeth and can result in additional tooth loss. Dental Implants help to support nearby teeth by absorbing the stresses when you are biting and chewing and preventing shifting of teeth.
- Dental Implants Help to Prevent Bone Loss – A missing tooth leads to bone loss where the tooth used to be. Dental Implants anchor to the bone and can prevent any further bone loss (and change in your appearance)
- Dental Implants Don’t Slip – Unlike dentures, dental implants don’t slip. They are permanently anchored to your jaw and feel just like your real teeth.
The Dental Implant Surgical Procedure
The dental implant procedure involves first embedding an implant into your jaw. An abutment and a crown are then attached to the implant. The implant is anchored to the jaw bone, creating a very strong bond that actually helps to prevent further bone loss to the jaw.
The surgical procedure is considered minor, and you’ll have your new tooth in just one day with a temporary tooth which is attached to your implant.
There are two main phases to the procedure:
Dental Implant Phase I (Surgery)
During this phase, the diseased tooth is extracted and removed. The dental implant is placed and a temporary crown is attached to the dental implant.
Dental Implant Phase II (Permanent Teeth)
Phase II occurs after the implant has had a chance to completely heal and bond to the bone. At this time, your temporary crown is removed your permanent tooth is attached to the implant.
Are Dental Implants Right for You?
Dental Implants may be a good choice for you if you are missing one or more teeth and you have good bone structure.
If your bone structure beneath your missing tooth has deteriorated, dental implants are likely still possible, although bone grafting may be necessary in order to embed the dental implant.

Cost of Dental Implants
The cost of Dental Implants will vary based on patient & requirements.
There is no way to know how much your implant will cost until you come in for a 50% Off implant consultation. Only after an exam and consultation can a proposed plan be developed along with an estimated cost.
Note that the cost of dental implants often times isn’t that much more expensive than getting a fixed bridge. While somewhat cheaper, a fixed bridge comes with the potential for additional tooth loss and bone loss due to the stresses that a fixed bridge places on adjacent teeth.
